About Me

Artist’s Statement for Sandra Azcarate.

What is an artist statement? How is one even supposed to begin writing one? How does one summarize their artistic practice succinctly? I have written many versions of my artist’s statement over the multiple years as an exhibiting artist, some more detailed than others. In the end, I have honed this down to a few straightforward sentences.

The point is that I paint about the social issues that I care about so that my artwork will help bring about the positive social change that I deeply believe in. I want to work together with others who are also working towards creating social change so that we can indeed be the catalysts of such transformation. That is my objective, my lifeblood, my intention. This statement may seem short in length but these few phrases carry much weight for me. They are direct and to the point, like my work and my purpose.
